Ittobori (一刀彫), literally translated as “single-blade carving,” is a classic Japanese woodcarving method characterized by its clean, expressive simplicity. The surface retains the natural cuts of the tool, often left unpainted or only lightly finished. Instead of intricate detailing, the focus is on conveying form and character through confident, straightforward strokes with one carving knife.
